 Help Files
After months of back-breaking slave labour by the assorted lackeys and minions dedicated to furthering the accessibility of Materia Magica, the latest update has brought us a series of additions, subtractions and overall reworking of the in-game HELP file systems. Skill and spell files have been updated with particular requirements, such as what classes are able to learn said skill or spell, what reagents are required, what your PCC (Proficiency Complexity Comprehension, i.e. TEK, COM) or SCC (Spell Complexity Comprehension) must be to use the spell or skill, and my personal favourite - the restrictions on where you can use spells or skills based on your position inside a formation. Another section in the new helpfiles, Additional Information, tells us just that - such things as whether the spell will raise or lower your alignment, whether it can be cast between rounds, if it requires a somatic component (that meaning, if you can cast the spell while webbed), or if the spell is castable while affected by silence. Whilst the revamped system may be a little bit unwieldy in parts (check out the math used on help slow!), it's certainly good to have more information readily accessible. However, a few problems still remain - what of witches binding themselves to aerial spirits? There are still inconsistencies in the Requirements and Additional Information sections - but with any large project, there's bound to be a few wrinkles that need ironing out.
